MIGRATION NARRATIVES / STREET ART / COMMUNITY SPACE
A series of pop-up events and street interventions across London, led by migrant communities. These mobile stages transform public spaces into living galleries—sharing migration stories through art, music, and interactive installations.

City Walk: Qigong and City Walk in East London “Chinatown”
East London (UK), 24th August 2025
Urban transformation often follows the flow of capital. London’s original West End Chinatown reflects earlier migration patterns, while a younger generation of Chinese immigrants is reshaping the city with new cultural capital, shifting local businesses toward culture, craft, and art. This walking tour explores the rise ofEast London’s emerging “Chinatown, ” incorporating Qigong and movement practice in a local park.
Dr Lois Liao is a writer, interdisciplinary academic at Cardiff University, and co-founder of EAST2046. She holds a PhD from University College London and was previously a fellow at the London School of Economics and Political Science.
Dr. Alex Boyd is a community entrepreneur and researcher in eco-embodied culture, and co-founder of multiple international initiatives including Intercultural Roots.

Academic Talk: Tea Tasting and Migrant Food Talk at a Chinese Takeaway
Top Wok Chinese Takeaway (London, UK), 24th August 2025
This is an intimate fusion of tea tasting, academic discussion, and personal storytelling—set, intentionally, inside a Chinese takeaway. The session explores food, human and cultural geography, and migration.
Dr Yunting Qi is an academic from the East China University of Science and Technology in Shanghai, whose research focuses on food, daily life, identity, and emotions. She obtained her PhD from Royal Holloway.

City Walk: Architecture and International Scholarship in Bloomsbury
Bloomsbury (London, UK), 19th August 2025
This walking tour explores Bloomsbury’s diverse architecture while uncovering its connections to migration, international scholarship, and sociopolitical change. Moving through Georgian squares, modernist buildings, and university landmarks, the walk highlights how global intellectual exchanges and shifting populations have shaped the neighborhood’s cultural and architectural identity.
Azure Bao is a PhD candidate at UCL researching postwar UK higher education and Brutalist architecture.

Public Space Chat: 2046’s Re-imagination on Family

2046's Re-imagination on Family is a park discussion inviting participants to reflect on the question: “If we could reimagine or reinvent what ‘family’ means, what could it look like? ”
Haoyue Tan is a PhD candidate in Sociology at UCL. Mengyun He is a documentary filmmaker and PhD candidate in the digital economy at LSE.

Public Space Chat: 2046’s Re-imagination on Intimacy

Composition #3 is inspired by early Buddhist cave temples, where space becomes a series of living, segmented forms that evoke the Buddha’s simultaneous absence and omnipresence.
Seph Li is a London-based digital artist and former teamLab member known for interactive works that explore the relationship between the artist and the audience. His installations have been exhibited internationally, including at the National Art Center Tokyo and the Museum of Tomorrow in Rio de Janeiro.

Blending improvised Tanz-style movement with ambient techno, this B2B VJ & Body Performance explores the spontaneous fusion of female bodies and rhythm, evokingjoy, connection, and presence in each moment.
Kiki Ye, Shen Ao, Xiao Wang and Vivi Wei are a London-based East Asian artist collective specializing in improvisational performance.

Popup: EAST2046 x Data Vandals x Flourish/Canva – What Do Londoners Think of Their City?
London School of Economics and Political Science (London, UK), 8th July 2025
As part of London Data Week, this pop-up invited the public to share their perceptions of London through interactive data tools. EAST2046 also conducted a series of street interviews, engaging Londoners in conversations about the future of AI.
Data Vandals is a New York–based collective that brings data-driven engagement to public spaces, using their van and playful tools to foster understanding of civic data and place.

City Walk: EAST2046 × London Data Week — East London Regeneration and Gentrification Data Walkshop

As part of London Data Week 2025, this city walk combines on-the-ground exploration with a data hackathon to examine regeneration, community change, and urban dynamics in East London.
