Turning invisible data into film

11 July 2026 · Imperial College London
EAST2046’s July 2026 filmmaking hackathon asked creators to turn invisible data into film. One track drew on an archive of dream reports; the other worked with London housing figures. The work culminated in a screening at Imperial College London on 11 July. The brief connected creative decisions with the interpretation of evidence: dream reports could become imagery, atmosphere and narrative; housing data could become a story about systems and the people living with their consequences. Satie’s Nightmare, by the collective Mei Sense, received first prize in the dream track. HOME SWEET HOME, by Jiejie Luo and Junting Chen, received first prize in the social-impact track. Its story follows a communications officer handed a key without an address, exposing the gap between administrative processes and an actual home. The hackathon archive brings together the original brief, dataset context, winners and special mentions, with original covers and credits and verified watch links.
