Walking, painting and reading Peckham

A neighbourhood walk and data-art workshop connected the places people inhabit with the stories that maps can miss.
On 7 July 2026, EAST2046 brought a city walk and data-art workshop to Peckham as part of its programme as arts events partner of London Data Week. Adam Rodgers Johns led participants from Copeland Park through Little Lagos, visiting Nigerian-led religious spaces embedded in the neighbourhood. The walk considered the relationship between the map and the territory: how migration, regeneration and community life become visible, or disappear, in the ways a city is described. Anya Low led the workshop that followed. Participants painted what they had noticed, turning observation into a shared creative response. The finished paintings were displayed in the window at AMP Gallery, where Dr Lois Liao brought the day together with a tour of the AI Companionship exhibition. The activity offered several ways into the same question: what can we learn about a place when we combine data with walking, listening and making?
